Building Strong Children.....It's not Broadway but it's Close
We Believe.......
Children who are involved in the world of acting are less likely to have difficulty speaking in public, will be more persuasive in their communication, both written and oral, and will be able to put themselves into others' shoes and to relate to them. As a result, children will have a positive, confident self-image. Children work together to find the best way for each member of the group to contribute and listen to and accept the viewpoints of others. No art form is more truly collaborative.

Expectations and policies:
We are committed to providing the best experience for your young actor. We fully intend to work with your child to make this drama experience one of learning not only about the dramatic arts, but also learning about being an important part of a team no matter the size of their personal role assignment. We also believe everyone has a bit of an actor inside them and we will do our best to both nurture and draw out that young actor within. We work with all levels of talent and consider all our students to be ‘talented’ in their special way. In order to reach these goals we require our young actors to complete the assigned material within the scheduled deadlines and to be respectful to both the instructors and their peer actors. We have set in place some simple guidelines for your young actor to follow in order to ensure a successful experience and a terrific performance. General policies and information: When you arrive at the audition or rehearsal, please sign in at the registration table and send your child into the audition or rehearsal space. Once you have filled out the required registration form, you may leave the paperwork with the attendant and come back at the scheduled pick-up time. Parents are not permitted into the audition space as they can cause a distraction to the actors and may also create more stress for those auditioning. Auditions and Rehearsals: During the audition, students will be asked if they would like to present either a part of a song or some lines they have prepared. This is not required and will be on a voluntary basis. We may also ask some children to say certain lines or act out a particular scenario as necessary either individually or as a group. While we have found that children enjoy this opportunity to act out a scenario, it is important to note that respectful behavior is paramount and will impact casting. During the auditions of others and while auditioning themselves, children are expected to behave in a professional and respectful manner. These expectations will be explained to the children prior to the commencement of the auditions. The same is expected during all following rehearsals should your child be cast for a part in the musical. Casting: We will be casting children in two types of roles. Both roles require learning lines on time and coming prepared for rehearsals. Failure to do so may cause a recasting of parts. Lead actors will be learning lines specific to their part. Chorus actors will be learning lines of the various songs included in the musical and will be broken into sections. There will be one or two group leaders selected for each chorus section. Some lead roles will be shared by two actors. We do reserve the right to make adjustments to the casting once the rehearsals begin due to lack of learning lines, behavior or adjusting a certain fit for the particular part. Students will also be given the opportunity to audition for smaller feature parts or solos as rehearsals begin. Should these opportunities arise we will give those children who wish to the opportunity to ‘try out’ for those solos or feature parts. While some roles may have a feature solo associated with them, the actual singer of the solo may not be the same as the person cast for the lead role. We cannot stress enough the importance of the commitment to learning the lines, both to the particular role and for the songs, by the dates requested and on time. We consider all roles to be critical to a successful show. All our actors should feel proud to be cast in any part of this show. Rehearsals: During rehearsals and the show professional and respectful behavior will be expected of each young actor. This means that the children should not talk amongst themselves when the director is speaking or during the rehearsal of a scene. These rules will be reviewed with the children prior to the first rehearsals. We believe an orderly rehearsal room means more fun for everyone. Those children with lead roles will be required to attend rehearsals starting in December. They will be expected to have learned one third of their lines prior to coming to the first rehearsal in December and the following thirds for each additional rehearsal in December. Those with smaller parts should learn at least half of their parts prior to the first rehearsal in December. Children with chorus roles should begin learning the lines to the songs in the show and listening to the music in December so that they know the words to all the songs prior to the beginning of rehearsals in January. Mini actors will be expected to know the lines for one song prior to their first rehearsal in January. Additional rehearsals may be required and will be given with one week notice. Tech Week and Parent assistance: The week before the performance, children will be expected to attend rehearsals the entire week. This will be the week of March 12th. We will be requesting parent assistance during this week and back stage during productions. ing the Text Element anywhere on the page.
